When you’re getting a “Nice BMW” comment regarding an oil analysis, hey, that there is an endorsement I feel good about.

How much does this cost, and what is required?

It’s cheap. Look up Blackstone. The M5 has a weak spot — the rod bearing. It’s an expensive fix but left unchecked takes the whole engine if it fails. So I get the oil checked at each change. If the engine isn’t “making metal” by leaving deposits the rod bearing isn’t failing and I hoon with abandon. You just send a sample of the used oil. They analyze and translate it for you. Pretty great service too.

Who thought an oil analysis could be so prosaic? Or was that Prozac?
